Privacy Policy

This policy explains what Vtypes does with your data. It is short because the software does very little with it: there is no Vtypes account, no Vtypes server, and no Vtypes cloud. Nothing you say or type reaches us, because there is nowhere for it to reach.

1. What we collect

Nothing. Vtypes has no telemetry, no analytics, no crash reporting and no sign-in. We do not operate a service that your copy of the application talks to, so we do not receive your audio, your transcripts, your screen contents, your settings, or any identifier for you or your machine.

This website is served as static files. It sets no cookies and runs no analytics.

2. What stays on your device

All of it, unless you deliberately configure otherwise:

• Audio. Held in memory while you hold the shortcut and discarded after transcription. It is not written to disk.
• Transcripts. Kept in a local database on your machine if you keep history, and deleted with it. You can clear history in the application.
• Screen context. When screen reading is enabled, Vtypes reads the visible text of the focused window to build the prompt for the post-processing step. It is used for that request and not retained afterwards.
• API keys. Stored locally, in your operating system's credential storage where available. They are sent only to the provider they belong to.

3. When data leaves your device

Only when you point Vtypes at a service yourself. There are two such steps, and both run locally by default:

• Transcription, if you configure a hosted speech-to-text endpoint instead of the on-device model.
• Post-processing, if you configure a hosted language model instead of a local one. When screen reading is on, the visible text of the focused window forms part of that request.

In both cases the request goes directly from your machine to the provider you chose, authenticated with your own API key. We are not a party to it, cannot see it, and have no access to your account with that provider. What that provider does with the data is governed by their privacy policy, not this one — read it before enabling either option, particularly if you dictate confidential material.

If you never configure a hosted provider, no data leaves your machine at any point.

4. Screen reading

Screen reading is off until you turn it on, in the application's Transcription settings. It reads text already displayed on your own screen, through the operating system's accessibility interface — the same interface screen readers use.

Treat it with the caution the capability deserves. If the focused window holds something you would not paste into a hosted model, either turn screen reading off or use a local post-processing model, which keeps the text on the machine.

5. Children

Vtypes is not directed at children, and we collect no information from anyone, children included.

6. Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Because we hold no contact details for you, we cannot notify you individually; the current version is always the one on this page.
