These terms cover your use of the Vtypes application and this website. They are short because there is very little between us: the software is free, there is no account, and we run no service on your behalf.
1. What Vtypes is
Vtypes is a voice dictation application for Windows. It records audio while you hold a shortcut, transcribes it, optionally reads the visible text of the window you are dictating into for context, optionally passes the transcript to a language model for cleanup, and pastes the result.
Transcription and cleanup run on your own machine by default. Either step can instead be pointed at a third-party API using a key you supply.
2. Licence to use it
You may install and use Vtypes on any number of machines you control, personally or commercially, at no cost. You may not sell it, or distribute a modified copy of it as though it were the original.
3. Third-party services
If you configure a hosted transcription or post-processing provider, you are that provider's customer. You are responsible for your account and your key, you pay their charges directly, and their terms and privacy policy govern that part of the pipeline. We do not resell, proxy, meter or see those requests.
4. Your responsibility for what you dictate
You are responsible for the content you dictate and for where you send it. In particular, if you enable screen reading and configure a hosted post-processing model, the visible text of the focused window is included in requests to that provider. Do not enable that combination over material you are not permitted to disclose to them.
You are also responsible for complying with the law where you are, including any law governing the recording of other people's voices.
5. No warranty
Vtypes is provided as is, without warranty of any kind. Speech recognition and language models make mistakes, including confident ones: the software can produce text that is fluent and wrong. Read what it writes before you rely on it, and do not use it unreviewed where an error would be costly — in medical, legal, financial or safety-critical work.
6. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from your use of Vtypes, including lost data, lost profits, or the consequences of an inaccurate transcript. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
7. Updates and availability
We may change, update or discontinue Vtypes at any time. Since the application runs locally, a copy you have already installed keeps working regardless of what we do; we make no commitment to future releases, fixes or continued downloads.
8. Changes to these terms
If these terms change, the date at the top changes with them. Continuing to use the application after that means you accept the revised version.
